EV Classification Lowers Nissan Kicks e-Power’s Base Price To P1.179M

The Nissan Kicks e-Power has been classified as a full EV by the DOE, so it now has a lower base price as a result.

Nissan Philippines is pleased to announce the new suggested retail price (SRP) for the Nissan Kicks e-Power, effective today.

2023 Nissan Kicks e-POWER Philippines

The new pricing is thanks to the Nissan Kicks e-Power being classified as a battery electric vehicle or basically a full EV, even though we know that this is a series hybrid. Basically, the DOE classifies EVs to be vehicles that are driven purely by an electric motor, and that’s exactly what the Kicks e-Power is. There is nothing in the DOE’s certification that states that a BEV can or can’t have an internal combustion engine (ICE).

The DOE’s definition for a hybrid electric vehicle, on the other hand, states that a vehicle’s wheels should be powered by both the ICE and the electric motor, but’s only applicable in series-parallel hybrids (basically what Toyota and Lexus hybrids mostly are) and parallel hybrids (the Lexus RX 500h F Sport Performance, for example), not series hybrids like the Kicks e-Power.

Anyway, the overall good thing here is that the EV classification of the Kicks e-Power made it completely free from excise tax, and these are savings that don’t translate to more profits for Nissan Philippines. Instead, Nissan Philippines passed on the savings to the consumers, which, in turn, still helps in putting more people into an electrified vehicle with less emissions on the road.

“We are excited to offer the Nissan Kicks e-Power at a more accessible price point,” Nissan Philippines President Yasuhisa Masuda mentioned, “This initiative supports our mission in providing Filipinos with innovative and sustainable mobility solutions and also aligns with the government’s vision of a greener and more sustainable future for the Philippines.”

The Nissan Kicks e-Power is available at all Nissan dealerships nationwide at the following prices:

  • Kicks e-Power EL: P1,179,000 (from P1,239,000)
  • Kicks e-Power VE: P1,279,000 (from P1,339,000)
  • Kicks e-Power Sport: P1,279,000 (from P1,339,000)
  • Kicks e-Power VL: P1,479,000 (from P1,539,000)
