LOOK: Signs That Suggest Tesla Is Officially Arriving In The Philippines

The electric vehicle (EV) space is currently an interesting segment because of the numerous newcomers and models arriving from various countries and brands, mostly from China. However, while a lot of EV brands are already present in the Philippines, you’ll indeed wonder why of all brands, Tesla has not yet thought of setting up shop in our market. Well, that may soon change because there are signs that Tesla is finally entering the Philippine market.

With that in mind, you might begin to wonder, isn’t Tesla already in the Philippines? There’s a small amount of Model 3s in the Philippines, after all, and even a more obscure amount of Model Ys, Model Ss, and Model Xs. Well, all of those are gray market imports or parallel imports.

In case you’re unaware, Tesla doesn’t sell cars through distributors, like most automakers. For example, BMW in the Philippines is distributed by SMC Asia Car Distributors, Corporation, while Porsche is distributed by PGA Cars. Tesla, on the other hand, prefers to sell their vehicles themselves as opposed to having a third-party official distributor. Likewise, with dealerships, Tesla doesn’t partner with a dealer principal. Instead, it also prefers to operate those dealers themselves.

And this is why Tesla’s job listings on their website are a big deal. All of these are based in Taguig, which means that this is probably where Tesla will open its local office and first dealership in the Philippines. They even have an official advertisement for a Tesla Recruitment Day, which is set to happen from September 13 to 14 at the Peninsula Hotel in Makati.
