Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition Now In PH, Priced From P2.490M

After debuting at the Mazda Fan Festa at Fuji Speedway last year, the Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition has finally made its way here.

After making its debut at the Mazda Fan Festa in Fuji Speedway last October 2024, the Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition has finally arrived in the Philippines. This marks the special edition MX-5’s ASEAN debut, because the Philippines is, after all, the biggest market of the MX-5 in Asia outside Japan.

As the name suggests, celebrates the model’s 35 years of existence. If you can recall, yes we already had a 30th Anniversary MX-5 back in 2018, and that’s a testament to the roadster’s ever-important legacy in the sports car segment. However, with the 35th Anniversary Edition, only 15 will be sold in the Philippines, each at a price of P2,490,000.

So, what exactly do you get for that money? Well, the most distinguishing feature of this special edition model is its Artisan Red paint, which is the only color you can have for this MX-5. It’s the same shade of red that debuted in another special edition model, the Mazda 6 20th Anniversary Edition, which is being offered in the CX-90 and CX-80 as well. There’s a 35th Anniversary badge on the car’s rocker panels, and Soft Top versions get a tan roof option.

The current MX-5 received a mid-cycle facelift last year and is unofficially dubbed “ND3”. Therefore, the exterior comes with those same updates such as the redesigned front and rear bumper, the LED headlights with the daytime running lights now integrated into these units, new LED taillights, and new alloy wheels.

As for the interior, the story is largely the same wherein it gets the same updated 8.8-inch Mazda Connect infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with newly-designed analog gauges. Where this special edition MX-5 sets itself apart is with its tan Nappa Leather seating and soft top, along with numerous 35th Anniversary logos placed around the interior. Yes, for this special edition model, there won’t be an RF version. Topping it all off are Artisan Red trims on the aircon vents as well as the smart key fob housing.

Versus the 30th Anniversary Edition, whose Recaro bucket seats, RAYS forged wheels, Brembo front brake calipers, and Nissin rear brake calipers, as well as Recaro bucket seats gave it a sportier edge, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition focuses more on the comfort and luxury aspect of the popular roadster.

Powering the Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is the same 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder gasoline engine as before, which produces 181 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. As usual, this is mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Likewise, the redesigned steering rack, the new asymmetric limited-slip differential (A-LSD), and Dynamic Stability Control with Track Mode (DSC-Track) are also carried over into this special edition MX-5.

If you didn’t catch the Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition at the Sports Cars for a Cause event last Sunday at Bonifacio Global City, you can see it once again for yourself at their display at Power Plant Mall until March 2.
