GWM Philippines is expanding its local lineup beyond its gas- and diesel-fed offerings by previewing a broad range of electrified vehicles. This is in line with GWM’s philosophy of “All Powertrains, All Scenarios, All Users.”
Taking center stage is the GWM Tank 700 Hi4-Z, the brand’s flagship and highest-performing model. Notably, the Philippines is the first market outside of China to feature this model, following its debut in the Chinese local market 2 weeks ago, reinforcing GWM Philippines’ growing importance in the brand’s international expansion.
The GWM Tank 700 Hi4-Z is a plug-in hybrid with a series-parallel hybrid layout. You can read our engineering deep dive on the qualities of GWM’s three all-wheel drive (AWD) Hi4 plug-in hybrid drivetrains here. In the case of the Tank 700’s Hi4-Z drivetrain, it combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an electric motor mounted at both the front and rear axles. The meaty engine, combined with the high-performance electric motors, results in a total system output of 958 horsepower. Its 59.05 kWh lithium-ion battery is also good for a CLTC-rated pure electric range of 190 kilometers.
Along for the ride are two upcoming new models to be sold this year. The GWM Haval H7 sits below the bigger H9, but unlike the H9, the H7 is a plug-in hybrid. Though the H7 is a unibody crossover SUV with rugged styling, it will stand out in the segment with its Hi4 AWD plug-in hybrid system. In the H7’s case, it combines a turbo 1.5-liter four-cylinder, plus two electric motors, which are arranged in a series-parallel layout. The H7 plug-in hybrid uses a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), and it offers a strong system output of 449 horsepower. The 35.43 kWh lithium-ion battery is good for a 151-kilometer CLTC-rated range, while its total driving range is more than 1,000 kilometers.
Finally, a pure electric vehicle (EV) with a familiar nameplate is making its return in GWM’s local lineup with the Ora 05. Before this model, GWM initially offered the Ora 03 subcompact hatch, but the Ora 05 now succeeds that, and it now comes in a subcompact crossover SUV body style. The Ora 05 has a front-wheel drive (FWD) electric motor layout that produces 201 horsepower, while a 45.3 kWh or 58.3 kWh battery provides up to 480 or 580 kilometers of CLTC-rated range.
“We are seeing a strong response to GWM’s direction. One that focuses on innovation, efficiency, and real-world usability,” said Mr. Dax Avenido, Brand Head of GWM Philippines. “This reinforces our commitment to continue listening to the market and delivering solutions that truly matter to Filipino drivers.”
GWM Philippines is already accepting pre-orders for the Haval H7 plug-in hybrid SUV, while the Ora 05 and Tank 700 Hi4-Z are still at their preview stages.
