Vision BMW Alpina Previews A Future V8-Powered Grand Tourer

The Vision BMW Alpina previews a V8-powered future model that focuses on the brand’s three pillars of speed, comfort, and sophistication.

BMW Alpina made itself official earlier this year, finally integrating into BMW Group as a standalone brand. As such, the brand won’t just make Alpina versions of certain BMW models, but it will also create its own unique models, too.

BMW Alpina’s first model will be based on the Vision BMW Alpina concept that the company recently unveiled. The Vision BMW Alpina concept is a grand tourer (GT) with elongated and elegant proportions. Fans were worried about Alpina’s dilution, but thankfully, BMW is clear on what its positioning is. Alpina isn’t just a more luxurious BMW M model, but its something different altogether. While Alpina models are fast, they aren’t necessarily track-focused and offer ultra-sharp handling. Instead, BMW Alpina will maintain its three pillars of speed, comfort, and sophistication.

These three pillars are indeed evident from its strong and elegant design. Rather than a vehicle that features wild and aggressive styling, the Vision BMW Alpina looks more elegant but still bold in a way that BMW can only achieve. The vehicle is grand in every way, measuring nearly 5.2 meters long—way longer than a BMW M4, let alone the M2. There’s a large kidney grille up front, along with slim LED daytime running lights with separate main LED headlights. Though the grille in the concept is enclosed, BMW says it’s actually got a V8, which is a great sign on how BMW is preserving Alpina’s brand heritage.

The side profile of the concept is at least elegant, featuring long and low proportions that perfectly fit a GT. Bronze elements are the order of the day here, which indeed help in making the vehicle look distinctive amidst a ton of other luxury cars that use silver brightwork. At the rear, a long, curvaceous roofline helps in stretching its proportions, which leads to the rear fascia that features two LED taillight strips.

Inside, the Vision BMW Alpina gets a similar cockpit design as the newly-updated 7 Series. The BMW Panoramic iDrive is fitted here, and it fills the entire upper dash with a very wide display. There are also two infotainment screens—yes there’s one for the passenger’s side—but every other interior facet has been carefully designed for supreme elegance. From the color choices to the crystal switchgear and the leather sourced from Alpine-based suppliers, this is Alpina-style luxury taken in the right direction—perhaps not the screen-filled layout but we’ll take it anyway.

If BMW M would be focused on bucket seats and carbon fiber trims, the Vision BMW Alpina comes with a selection of wood and metal trims, plus self-deploying crystal glasses that rise from the rear center console. The focus on high-speed comfort is also evident in one of its drive modes. Called Comfort+, it is a Alpina signature drive mode that improves the engine’s performance, but keeps everything else in comfort mode. This is all in line with the guiding principles od Burkard Bovensiepen—Alpina’s founder. He says that guiding that a “comfortable driver is a faster driver,” and that tradition is set to continue with the Vision BMW Alpina.

The Vision BMW Alpina will be making its public debut at the 2026 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The concept will spawn a production model next year, and as the interior layout suggests, it will unsurprisingly be utilizing the BMW 7 Series as a base car. Whether it will be in a two-door GT format or not is still unknown, but based on the confirmation of a V8 engine, it is highly likely that it will feature an improved version of the brand’s current 4.4-liter twin-turbo mild-hybrid V8 instead of a clean-sheet design.
