The VinFast VF 8 is one of the Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer’s initial global offerings that kicked off its worldwide expansion. When the VF 8 was unveiled in 2022, the North American market became one of its overseas conquest markets. The vehicle received mixed reception in the very market it was targeted at, though it received improvements through its production life. Perhaps for this second-generation, the tides will change, as the new-generation VinFast VF 8 has been completely redesigned from the ground up.
Beginning with its design, the new-generation VinFast VF 8 receives a significant glow-up. The front end still contains the signature wing-shaped LED daytime running lights that meet towards the VinFast logo, but the LEDs now have a cleaner design. The LED headlights are also cleverly integrated into the blacked-out enclosed grille, and this is now the face of its new “Tech Fluid” design language.
At the sides, the VF 8 likewise has a more striking design. There’s a rising beltline that connects to the rear fascia, while the futuristic aerodynamic wheels help in giving the VF 8 a striking look. Finally, the rear end features full-width LED taillights that likewise mimic the wing-shaped LED lights upfront. The rear fascia has been blacked out, which likewise mimics the volumetric front-end.
Moving inside the new-generation VinFast VF 8, the dash design is completely new. The materials promise a more premium feel, along with more intuitive tech features. This time around, a digital gauge cluster accompanies the main 12.9-inch infotainment screen, which forms the basis of VinFast’s new software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform. At the center of it all is the Central Vehicle Computer (CVC), which enables the VF 8 to receive new features or address recalls through over-the-air (OTA) updates.
Other interior features worth mentioning include a floating center console with plenty of storage areas, a completely new two-spoke steering wheel, and door pulls that are seamlessly integrated into the handles. It is still unknown if it has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though the outgoing VF 8 came with this smartphone mirroring feature.
What we do know is that it has a full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems, some of which include Highway Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Warning, and a high-definition 360-degree camera system. The chassis structure and ADAS technologies were developed with the aim of meeting ASEAN NCAP 5-star safety standards, according to VinFast.
Powering the new-generation VinFast VF 8 is a front-wheel drive (FWD) electric motor that produces 228 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque. With a 60.13 kWh battery (it wasn’t revealed if it is lithium-ion or lithium-iron-phosphate), its NEDC range is up to 500 kilometers. Though the AC and DC charging outputs have not been revealed, VinFast says that the VF 8 can be charged from 10 to 70 percent in under 30 minutes.
Notably, the new-generation VF 8 is equipped with an Integrated Thermal Management (ITM) system independently researched, developed, and patented by VinFast. The system manages cooling and heating functions for the battery, motor, electrical system, and cabin climate control in a coordinated and efficient manner. This helps maintain stable vehicle performance, improve energy efficiency, support fast charging capability, and contribute to battery and motor durability, while maintaining cabin comfort in varying weather conditions.
Initial deliveries of the new-generation VinFast VF 8 will commence in Vietnam first in late July 2026.
