The fully-electric 2027 Geely EX2 is now on sale in the Philippines, a couple of weeks after being previewed at the 10th Philippine International Motor Show. The new EX2 is part of a wave of new subcompact electric hatchbacks, which includes competitors like the GAC Aion UT and Chery QEV.
The Geely EX2 has been making a name for itself worldwide ever since it became China’s overall best-selling vehicle. As the world’s biggest car market, this makes the EX2 also one of the world’s most popular models. More than 500,000 units have already been sold in 14 months since it was launched. For it to achieve that sales success, the EX2 combines affordability, cutting-edge features, and ingenious space packaging that’s never been seen before in its segment.
The 2027 Geely EX2 may only be new in the Philippine market, but this subcompact electric hatch is one of the first in its segment to feature a front trunk. Combined with an extraordinarily long wheelbase, the EX2 has excellent interior space as well. Speaking of the interior, the dash comes with twin digital screens, which are both powered by the brand’s Flyme OS developed with Meizu. The 14.6-inch touchscreen also features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Two variants are available: Pro and Max. The range-topping Max gets a 256-color ambient lighting system with an illuminated city skyline design on the dashboard, a 540-degree camera, a full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), plus a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
The reason for its excellent packaging is due to the EX2 being rear-wheel drive (RWD). This is also evident from its exterior proportions, because without the need for electrical components up front, Geely can shorten the hood and allocate more interior space. The exterior also features a rounded shape with feather-inspired LED headlights, along with full LED taillights and 16-inch two-tone wheels with a cloverleaf design.
Now, moving on to the electric drivetrain, the rear-mounted electric motor produces 114 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque, while its 39.4 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery is good for 395 kilometers of NEDC-rated range. The EX2 supports up to 70 kW of DC fast charging output, which is good for a 30 to 80 percent charge in 21 minutes. AC charging, meanwhile, is up to 6.6 kW, which is good for a 10 to 100 percent charge in 6-6.5 hours. The EX2 also has vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities.
The 2027 Geely EX2 is now in the Philippines for P938,000 for the Pro and P1,038,000 for the Max. For now, these two variants come with a P40,000 introductory discount.
