BYD Cars Philippines has finally pulled the wraps off its smallest crossover SUV offering to date. Say hello to the 2027 BYD Atto 2, which is offered in both full-electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid DM-i versions. The Atto 2 competes right in the subcompact crossover SUV segment, which includes rivals like the Toyota Yaris Cross, Mitsubishi Xforce, and Honda HR-V, but at a price point that’s below these vehicles.

Beginning with its exterior design, the 2027 BYD Atto 2 carries a modern look, with its slim LED headlights that are connected by a gloss-black panel. If you want to separate the EV and DM-i versions apart, you’ll have to look at their front bumpers and wheels. The Atto 2 EV has a vertical line in the middle of the bumper, while the DM-i version has a simpler front bumper design.
On the sides, the Atto 2 EV comes in two-tone 16-inch wheels, while the DM-i versions come with 16- or 17-inch grey wheels for the Dynamic and Premium, respectively. Moving towards the rear end, full-width LED taillights are fitted as standard, along with a chunky rear bumper to complement the rugged design of this crossover SUV.

Once inside, the 2027 BYD Atto proudly showcases its modernity with its cutting-edge tech features. An 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster comes as standard on all variants, while a 10.1-inch touchscreen is fitted in the DM-i Dynamic, or a 12.8-inch touchscreen for the DM-i Premium and EV. Furthermore, the touchscreen of the EV version also rotates. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard, along with a six-speaker sound system.
As for the overall interior itself, the 2027 BYD Atto 2 punches above its weight class with its soft-touch materials and solid build quality. The Atto 2 EV’s seats are upholstered in leather and feature electronic adjustment for the driver, while the DM-i variants come with fabric seats. Other differences between the two versions are their gear selector layouts. For the EV version, the gear selector is on the center console, while the DM-i models get a new steering column-mounted gear selector. Unfortunately, this configuration also eliminates the physical light switches. This necessitated BYD to move the lighting controls into the touchscreen.
In terms of their powertrain specifications, the 2027 BYD Atto 2 DM-i gets a familiar 1.5-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor, which offers a combined output of 165 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque that’s sent to the front wheels. Thanks to the 7.9 kWh LFP Blade battery, its pure electric range is 45 kilometers. Meanwhile, its total hybrid driving range is 1,045 kilometers.
On the other hand, the Atto 2 EV gets a front-wheel drive (FWD) electric motor layout that produces 177 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. Thanks to the 45.1 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) Blade battery, the Atto 2 EV has an NEDC-rated range of 380 kilometers. This version also accepts up to 7 kW in AC charging, which is good for a 7.4-hour charge from zero to 100 percent. Meanwhile, DC fast charging tops out at 65 kW, which is good for a 10 to 80 percent charge in 24 minutes.
Lastly, the 2027 BYD Atto 2 DM-i Premium is the only variant that comes with a full suite of DiPilot advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), which includes automatic emergency braking, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and automatic high beams. A 360-degree camera is also unique to the Atto 2 DM-i Premium.
