2027 BYD Seal 5 DM-i Goes On Sale In PH, Priced From P948K

The new 2027 BYD Seal 5 DM-i has finally arrived in the Philippines, featuring a new plug-in hybrid drivetrain and improved style.

After being teased last month, the 2027 BYD Seal 5 DM-i has officially been launched in the Philippines. After just two years in the Philippine market, the popular Seal 5 DM-i has already been given a mid-cycle facelift, though overseas, production of this vehicle began in 2021 for the 2022 model year. Nevertheless, this plug-in hybrid compact sedan that’s priced alongside subcompact offerings will continue to be a formidable challenger in a segment that’s driven by affordability and no-frills transportation.

In terms of features, the 2027 BYD Seal 5 DM-i is focused on affordability. This is reflected in what variants are now being offered. BYD Cars Philippines is introducing a new, more affordable variant called Essential, while the Dynamic is now the range-topping version. There are no plans so far to introduce a Premium variant of the new Seal 5 DM-i, and so the Premium in pre-facelift form will continue to be sold until stocks last.

On the outside, the facelifted 2027 BYD Seal 5 DM-i is now more closely related to the rest of the Ocean series lineup. The front end gets a more curvaceous look through a new set of rounded LED headlights. Meanwhile, the grille size has been reduced for this new model. 16-inch wheels come as standard, and the Dynamic gets a unique two-tone finish. Lastly, the rear end gets a restyled rear bumper, along with full-width LED taillights.

As for the interior, the 2027 BYD Seal 5 DM-i comes as standard with a digital gauge cluster, which mixes a dot-matrix display with a color multi-information display. There’s also a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, full LED interior lighting, a reverse camera, and a smart key with push-button start. Other standard features include a four-speaker sound system, a new steering column-mounted gear selector, rear aircon vents, and two rear USB charging ports (USB-A and USB-C). Exclusive to the higher-trim Dynamic variant is leatherette upholstery, power-folding mirrors, and the NFC key.

At the heart of the 2027 BYD Seal 5 DM-i is the new, fifth-generation Super DM-i drivetrain. It consists of a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that offers higher thermal efficiency and an electric motor. This offers a total system output of 162 horsepower and 210 Nm of torque. This is less than the 177 hp or 197 horsepower that the current Seal 5 DM-i Dynamic and Premium produce, respectively.

As reflective of the new, more energy-dense batteries and smarter electronics, the lithium-iron-phosphate Blade battery has a smaller 7.42-kWh size (8.3 kWh for the pre-facelift Dynamic), yet its pure electric range of 55 kilometers represents a 5-kilometer improvement. This new fifth-generation Super DM-i system is fitted to both Essential and Dynamic variants, which can be charged through 3.3 kW AC charging.

The new 2027 BYD Seal 5 DM-i is now on sale across the brand’s more than 80 dealerships nationwide with the following prices:

  • Essential: P948,000
  • Dynamic: P1,048,000

Until August 31, the facelifted Seal 5 DM-i comes with an introductory discount of P50,000.
