Next-Generation 2027 Hyundai Tucson Debuts With Radically Boxy Styling

This is the next-generation 2027 Hyundai Tucson, which debuts with radically boxy styling and a software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform.

It’s safe to say that you would never accuse Hyundai of making boring designs these days, and that streak continues with the next-generation Tucson. Redesigned from the ground up, the next-generation 2027 Hyundai Tucson ditches all hints of curviness in favor of a distinctly boxy and angular design.

And indeed, the design of the 2027 Hyundai Tucson is already a conversation starter. The Tucson adopts Hyundai’s current design language called Art of Steel, which is characterized by bold monolithic shapes and blunt surfacing. Hyundai is doing its best to disguise and integrate the LED headlamps into the design by blending them with the black front bumpers. Above it are vertical LED daytime running lights and a full-width LED light bar with indirect lighting (think of Tesla’s full-width rear light bar for the Model Y).

The boxiness is even more apparent on the sides, wherein blunt shoulders and angular wheel arches contribute to its geometric side profile. Finally, towards the rear, the vertical LED lights and full-width light bar mirror those at the front. These lighting elements are Hyundai’s latest take on its H-shaped lighting, and it comes as standard on all Tucson variants, including the rugged XRT.

Like the exterior, the interior gets a complete overhaul. A predominantly horizontal dash features indirect ambient LED lighting for a lounge-like feel, which is matched with premium interior materials with barely any gloss black surfaces. The slim digital gauge cluster and large infotainment screen are running Hyundai’s new Pleos operating system, which also marks the brand’s entry into the software-defined vehicle (SDV) space.

Though Pleos is proprietary Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) software, its architecture is based on Google’s Android Automotive OS. Over-the-air (OTA) updates allow the Tucson to receive new features throughout its lifetime, pretty much like Tesla or BYD’s EVs. Google services are natively supported by the vehicle, too.

Hyundai so far has only revealed the design, and so technical details about this vehicle are still unknown at the moment. What we do know is that the Tucson has grown in size. It now measures 4,700 mm in length (+60 mm), 1,905 mm (+40 mm) in width, 1,685mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,785 mm (+30 mm). This makes the Tucson one of the longest in its segment, which results in best-in-class interior space, at least based on Hyundai’s claims.

As for powertrains, even this detail has not yet been revealed, but we can expect an assortment of gasoline and electrified powertrains for the 2027 Hyundai Tucson. The company also has not yet revealed when production will begin, but we predict that the Tucson will likely be launched in the Philippines in mid to late 2027.
