LOOK: Chery’s Rugged EV Brand iCaur Is Arriving In The Philippines This October

Chery International is composed of multiple brands apart from the main Chery brand. This includes Omoda & Jaecoo (clustered as one brand), Jetour, and iCaur, among others. Today, we’ll be focusing on iCaur, because this rugged electric vehicle (EV) brand is set to arrive in the Philippines this October.

So what exactly is iCaur? Well, in China, the company is branded as iCar, but for export markets, the brand is called iCaur. Though Chery never announced the intention behind this, there is a high chance that it is due to possible copyright issues outside China, but this is just our educated guess.

Anyway, now that’s out of the way, iCaur was established in 2023, and their first model was supposed to be the iCaur 03, which was eventually rebranded as the Jaecoo EJ6. Today, iCaur is a rugged EV brand that also makes plug-in hybrid range extender electric vehicles (REEVs).

iCaur today has three models worldwide: the pure electric V23 subcompact SUV, the V25 compact REEV, and the V27 midsize REEV. What’s confirmed for the Philippines is the V23 and the V27, since the V25 was just recently unveiled.

The V23 has two versions. The first is a rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant with 136 hp and a 60 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery (LFP) by CATL that’s good for a claimed NEDC-rated range of 360 kilometers. The latter has a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration that has 211 horsepower and an 82 kWh traditional lithium-ion battery by CATL that’s good for an NEDC-rated range of 403 kilometers.

The brand’s largest model is the V27, which is sold exclusively as an REEV. The REEV drivetrain consists of a 141-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that only acts as a generator, while the electric motor configurations are either a 248-horsepower single-motor RWD layout or a 449-horsepower dual-motor AWD layout.

Battery pack choices, which are also from CATL, include a 20.4 kWh LFP battery that’s good for an NEDC-rated range of 95 kilometers, while the AWD model’s 34.3 kWh LFP battery is good for 150 kilometers, also based on the NEDC cycle. Together with the 60-liter fuel tank, the RWD has an NEDC-rated range of 1,100 kilometers, while the AWD version is NEDC-rated at exactly 1,000 kilometers
