After a lengthy teaser campaign, the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero has finally been revealed. The nameplate’s comeback is one that’s highly anticipated, especially since this has been Mitsubishi’s flagship off-roader SUV. Now that it’s back, here’s what you need to know about the new Pajero.
Familiar Engines, Partly Triton-Based
The 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero rides on a traditional body-on-frame SUV platform as opposed to a car-based unibody crossover platform for the best off-roading capability possible. The platform is shared with the Triton pickup, but it has thicker side members and a front and rear section that’s unique to the Pajero. For instance, the front double-wishbone suspension has greater lateral rigidity, while the five-link rear coil springs replace the leaf springs found in the Triton.
Also shared with the Triton is its MIVEC 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine, which in this case produces 204 horsepower and 480 Nm of torque. It is hooked up to a new eight-speed automatic that drives all four wheels. Speaking of which, the Pajero uses the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle dynamics system with Active Yaw Control (AYC), which all help in making the Pajero steer and corner better on whatever terrain it is in.
The Super Select 4WD-II (SS4-II) also allows drivers to select from various four-wheel drive (4WD) modes, including 2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (full-time 4WD), 4HLc (locked center differential), and 4LLc (locked center differential with low-range gears).
Bold Design Meets Plush Interior
As for its design, the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero easily sets itself apart with its upright design with the brand’s signature T-shaped LED headlights. These are visually connected by an LED light bar as well for a seamless look. There are two grille designs. The first one has a horizontal bar pattern, which supposedly reflects the precision of Japanese craftsmanship, while the honeycomb grille is meant to evoke a sense of functional beauty and strength.
Paying homage to its past, the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero draws inspiration from previous generation models, including the C-pillar inspired by the roll bar of the first-generation model, along with a hexagonal rear motif that was put in place in lieu of the rear spare tire that previous generation models were known for. Lastly, the rear fascia has full-width LED taillights.
Inside, the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero places a higher emphasis on luxury and comfort. The horizontally-oriented dash panel draws inspiration from the first-generation Pajero. The refined design incorporates plush soft-touch materials, along with stitching techniques on the instrument panel and door trims that are inspired by the Japanese craft of Kimekomi. The Camel color draws on the natural tones of genuine materials whilst also making stains and other signs of everyday use less visible.
As for the cabin tech, the Pajero contains two 14.3-inch screens with graphics inspired by the Pajero’s heritage. One of those is the iconic Multi Meter, which has been reinterpreted for the digital age. There’s also the usual wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, along with a 12-speaker Dynamic Sound Yamaha Ultimate audio system–the pinnacle of the brand’s audio system in Mitsubishi’s lineup. Finally, the new Pajero also features the Mitsubishi Connect smartphone-based telematics.
On The Lookout For You
The 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero also comes with a suite of cutting-edge driver-assist features, which includes Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) with pedestrian, cyclist, and motorcyclist detection, as well as junction assist. There’s also Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) and Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication (EAPM). The all-new Pajero also features Emergency Lane Assist (ELA) for the first time, which uses a forward-facing camera and radar to recognize lane markings and surrounding vehicles and provides warnings and steering assistance when it detects a risk of lane departure. The model is also equipped with Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA), which detects vehicles approaching from either side at intersections and alerts the driver, helping reduce the risk of crossing-path collisions.
Also making its appearance in the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero is MI-PILOT, which bundles Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) into an advanced semi-autonomous driver assistance feature on highway drives.
The 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero will be exported to 100 countries globally, and its production is in Thailand. Yes, the Philippines is part of the Pajero’s list of markets where it will be sold.
