Geely Monjaro EM-i Plug-In Hybrid Coming To PH This October

The new Geely Monjaro EM-i plug-in hybrid is headed to the Philippines, with its local launch happening this October.

Geely initially unveiled the Monjaro (known as the Xingyue L in China) in 2021, but it wasn’t until 2026 that the midsize two-row (yes, it doesn’t have a third row) crossover SUV received a plug-in hybrid powertrain. With the Geely Monjaro EM-i having been recently revealed, the Philippines is destined to be one of its export markets, with the local launch already set for October.

The Geely Monjaro EM-i plug-in hybrid is underpinned not by the Geely Group’s CMA scalable platform co-developed with Volvo, but by the newer, electric-first GEA Evo platform. Yes, though its looks are almost unchanged from the pre-facelift model, it already gets a new platform, though this is immediately realized when you take a look at its interior and drivetrain.

Design-wise, the Geely Monjaro EM-i carries an elegant look, though it is no longer the brand’s most modern design. Still, the “Expanding Cosmos” grille looks elegant, and it is flanked by a pair of sleek LED headlights with two rows of LED daytime running lights similar to those from the Preface CMA-based sedan.

At the sides, the Monjaro EM-i features a sharp character line running from the headlamps all the way to the taillights. The proportions also lend the Monjaro EM-i a dynamic stance, with its short front overhangs and a wheelbase that’s longer than what the Okavango offers. Like many new modern cars nowadays, the Geely Xingyue L features wrap-around full-width LED taillights.

Philippine specs have not yet been confirmed, but the Geely Monjaro’s interior has since been updated since its 2021 debut. Even as the brand continues to push more models, the interior of the Geely Monjaro EM-i is still one of the brand’s most luxurious yet. Numerous leather and stitched surfaces wrap various parts of the interior. There’s quilted suede and leather upholstery, along with what Geely claims to be the world’s first “acupressure” massaging front seats.

Tech once again plays a central role in the Monjaro EM-i’s cabin, with the brand’s Flyme Auto operating system, created with Meizu, powering its software-defined vehicle (SDV) architecture. There’s also an available 16-speaker Flyme Sound, a 15.4-inch touchscreen, and a large 25.6-inch head-up display, among other features.

Under the hood of the Geely Monjaro EM-i is a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine that’s mated to an electric motor and a three-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). Based on listings in the Department of Energy (DOE)’s list of recognized EVs, the Monjaro EM-i will have a total system output of 416 horsepower, while its battery size of 29.8 kWh is good for a 130-kilometer NEDC-rated range.

For now, that’s all we know about the Geely Monjaro EM-i that’s headed for the Philippines. If you’re looking for a premium alternative in the plug-in hybrid midsize SUV segment, the Monjaro EM-i should be worth the wait.
