As promised earlier this year, Honda has given the Civic Type R a mid-cycle facelift, just as it also gave the Civic e:HEV hybrid the S+ Shift from the Prelude. The 2027 Honda Civic Type R gets minor exterior, interior, and performance upgrades to keep this legendary hot hatch in top form.
The changes begin with its front fascia, wherein the front bumper receives modest improvements. It begins with the lower air intake, which is now slightly wider and has a thicker black trim surrounding it. There’s also a sharper and deeper front splitter, which improves downforce whilst also increasing airflow velocity.
This results in reduced air turbulence, thus increasing engine cooling to enable the Type R to endure tougher and more sustained track driving. Topping it all off is a new paint option called Meteorite Gray Metallic.
Inside the 2027 Honda Civic Type R, the main highlight is the new bucket seats, which now feature heating for both the driver and front passenger. The high-friction suede-like material of the seats has a new perforated design with black striping that not only enhances its looks but also its grip in holding you in place during hard cornering.
Now, just as Honda did with the standard Civic, Google Built-In now makes its way into its 9-inch touchscreen. Google Gemini, the Play Store, and Google Maps are now supported through the new software that powers the infotainment system.
Elsewhere, the 2027 Honda Civic Type R’s interior gets more premium materials, along with more intricate detailing such as the diamond-pattern trim panel with a black surround, plus Ultrasuede material on the upper instrument panel and front doors. Meanwhile, the aluminum shift knob, as well as the interior door handles and console trim, now have a dark gray finish to complement the gloss black knobs.
Powering the 2027 Honda Civic Type R is the same 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo four-cylinder that produces 315 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, and this continues to power the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Though the engine is unchanged, it receives new engine covers inspired by the early generations sold in Japan.
Honda has also improved upon the Civic Type R’s ride and handling, particularly in +R mode. The adaptive suspension in this mode has been tweaked to reduce bouncing and impact harshness for more stable handling. Meanwhile, the Rev Match function for the manual transmission now delivers faster response for even smoother downshifts. Brake feel has likewise been improved, wherein the added yoke spring suppresses brake pedal play so it can provide a more direct pedal stroke feel.
Unfortunately, with the Civic Type R being discontinued in the Philippines since September 2025, you won’t see this new model in our market anytime soon. Do you miss the Civic Type R? Let us know down in the comments section.
