Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) has launched their new subcompact, the Hyundai Grand i10.
While similar in looks with the standard second generation i10, it actually has dimensional differences over the standard i10 sold in Europe, which is patly one of the reasons being called “Grand”. It has an 80 mm increase in length, with the wheelbase growing by 100 mm, and also wider by 65 mm. This results to more room than the standard i10.
It was first launched in India, the Grand i10’s main target market, and to further enforce that, the Grand i10 is also manufactured in India, which is headed by none other than Hyundai Motor India.
The new Hyundai Grand i10 adopts Hyundai’s continual use of their design language called “Fluidic Sculpture”, which makes the Hyundai Grand i10 much prettier than the car it replaces.
The interior has also been redesigned, with more upmarket feeling materials, and chic color combinations. Beige is the dominant color in the low to mid spec variants, while higher end variants have an orange interior.
Powering the Hyundai Grand i10 are two engine choices. A 1.0 liter gasoline engine that produces 65 hp and 94 Nm of torque, and a 1.2 liter gasoline engine that produces 86 hp and 120 Nm of torque. Transmission choices are either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic, with the 1.2 liter exclusively with a 4-speed automatic.
All variants are equipped with a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, multi-function display, and driver’s side power window. The two top trim L variants, available only with a 4-speed automatic, are generously equipped with smart keyless entry with push button start, cooled glovebox, rear view camera including back-up sensors, dual SRS airbags, 2DIN LCD touchscreen audio with DVD and GPS navigation, power folding mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, and 14 inch alloy wheels.
