Chevrolet has unveiled at the Dubai Autoshow the most powerful and fastest Corvette ever. This is only the 4th ZR1 that Chevrolet has ever released for the Corvette.
The Chevrolet Corvette has always been different from other muscle cars. It doesn’t suffer from too much internet memes compared to other muscle cars, such as those people that say that muscle cars are only good in a straight line. The Corvette has always been that muscle car that can keep up with Europe’s finest for a fraction of the cost, and this ZR1 is no exception.
Keeping the car sticky to the road and corner at tenacious speeds are its insane aerodynamics. A downside to having too much downforce at the rear is that, it can cause understeer, due to the front being too light. As a solution, Chevrolet created a bespoke and insane carbon fiber front spoiler that has canards in it designed to keep the front sticked to the ground.
As seen in these photos, the Corvette has an insanely large carbon fiber wing, but the large wing is part of an optional “High Wing” variant (ZTK Performance Pack). The standard ZR1 will have a “Low Wing” designed for maximum top speed. The wing in the “High Wing” ZTK Performance Pack is mechanically adjustable for up to 5 degrees from its standard set-up. It’s not one of those electronically adjustable wings. You need manly car tools for this one.
With the ZTK Performance Pack, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has 70% more downforce than the already insane Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Also included in the package are a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, chassis modifications, and a retuned Magnetic Ride Control suspension for even greater cornering grip. In a few words, what Chevrolet means is that, if you ain’t getting the ZTK Performance Pack, then you probably don’t deserve the ZR1 at all.
The inside is much more tamed compared to its exterior. We can see that is has bucket seats, a mix of Alcantara and leather, and Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system. Optional interior features include a Bose premium sound system, carbon fiber trimmed steering wheel, Nappa Leather, and a Performance Data Recorder
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s signature color has been always blue, but for this time, Chevrolet will be offering a Sebring Orange Design Package, which includes a Sebring Orange Tintcoat exterior paint, Sebring Orange brake calipers, while the interior is adorned in orange seatbelts, orange stitching, and bronze interior trimmings.
The Corvette ZR1 is powered by a supercharged 6.2 liter LT5 V8 engine. The LT5 codename harks back to the C4 ZR1’s aluminum block DOHC Lotus-designed Mercruiser-built V8. The engine produces 755 hp and 918 Nm of torque, and power is sent through the rear wheels via either a 7-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic. There are no performance stats released yet, so if the Z06 sprint from 0-100 kph in 3.0 seconds flat, it’s safe to assume the Z06 can achieve the same feat in under 3.0 seconds.
The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will be on sale starting on the Spring of 2018 in US dealerships.
