After its local preview at the 2018 Philippine International Motor Show, the all-new highly anticipated Suzuki Jimny has now been officially unveiled, with its pricing and full specs finally announced.
Being one of Go Flat Out’s most read articles, the Suzuki Jimny’s looks are already pretty familiar to everyone at this point. Rather than taking on a completely modern approach, Suzuki has given it a completely retro and boxy design. The front fascia features a front grille with five slats, as well as unpainted beefy bumpers and fender flares. Along with some vintage cues, the Jimny is also equipped with modern touches such as LED headlamps with washers for the GLX variants, as well as bumpers that are optimized to let the Jimny have a 37-degree approach and 49-degree departure angle. At 3,645 mm long, 1,645 mm wide, and 1,725 mm tall, the new Suzuki Jimny is 160 mm shorter than its predecessor, though it is 45 mm taller and 20 mm wider than before. Wheelbase stays the same at 2,250 mm, and in conjunction with the 210 mm ground clearance, the Suzuki Jimny’s dimensions really make it capable to go through all types of terrain without any issues.
The Suzuki Jimny’s interior features a hard-wearing and durable design, which goes back to the basics of off-roading, and de-cluttering the interior from too many screens, colors, and design details. It’s an all-black affair, but one that is done stylishly enough to make it attractive for adventure. Everything is honest and straightforward, with the main focus towards durability and ease-of-use. Being wide and taller than before, while retaining the wheelbase, it is expected that the Jimny will have more room for passengers.
A 1.5-liter inline-4 petrol engine resides under the hood of the Jimny, an upgrade over its predecessor’s 1.3-liter motor. It produces 101 hp and 130 Nm of torque, with power sent through a part-time ALLGRIP PRO 4×4 system with low-range transfer gear, brake LSD traction control, Hill Hold Control, and Hill Descent Control. A 3-link rigid axle suspension with coil springs for both the front and rear axles helps provide optimum wheel contact on all surfaces.
