Ford Philippines has just revealed the specifications of its upcoming Territory compact SUV. Set to be unveiled in August, the China-sourced Ford Territory will join the American automaker’s long list of SUVs and pick-ups.
Measuring at 4,580 mm long, 1,936 mm wide, and 1,674 mm tall, the Ford Territory is smack right in the compact crossover SUV category in the likes of the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Subaru Forester. Ford’s latest compact SUV will be available in two variants: Titanium and Trend.
Ford Philippines has revealed that the Territory will be generously equipped with a host of advanced driver-assist technologies such as a 360-degree camera, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Active Park Assist (self-parking feature) with parallel and segment-first perpendicular parking function. Interior amenities include power-adjustable seats with in-seat cooling, 10-inch touch screen infotainment system, and wireless charging. The all-new Ford Territory also comes with a panoramic sunroof and 18” inch alloy wheels.
Confirming our initial expectations, Ford’s latest SUV will be powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged EcoBoost gasoline engine mated, though the company has not released any power figures. Now, if we take a look at what’s being sold in the Chinese market, this engine produces 138 hp 225 Nm of torque. What’s surprising is the transmission choice. Ford says that the Territory will have a CVT–the first gasoline-powered Ford vehicle in more than 10 years to use this type of transmission once again.
The most likely reason for the choice of transmission is that the engine to be used will be a Mitsubishi-sourced 4G15T 1.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine–as is the case in China. With this powertrain, Ford Philippines says customers will enjoy low maintenance costs since the vehicle only needs to be maintained once a year.
“With the Ford DNA ingrained in its design, quality, and capability, the all-new Ford Territory is designed and engineered following Ford’s highest global quality standards to deliver an all-in-one SUV package that will deliver great value to Filipino customers looking for a stylish, spacious and technologically-advanced SUV,” says PK Umashankar, managing director, Ford Philippines.
Ford Philippines is the first market in the company’s International Market Group (IMG) composed of nearly 100 markets around the world to offer the all-new Ford Territory, which will reinforce Ford’s presence in the small and mini SUV segments in the country.
