MG PH To Launch Four New Cars In 2021, ZS EV To Be Previewed

The MG RX8 will make its debut next year, along with three other new cars. The fully-electric MG ZS EV will also be previewed in 2021.

The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), the official distributor of MG in the Philippines, has announced during its virtual anniversary celebration with the media that they will be launching four new cars in 2021. Among these four new cars is the MG RX8 three-row SUV, which was supposed to be launched this year.

This announcement was made by Atty. Albert Arcilla, President of TCCCI. The executive says that MG will be launching a new MPV, a new SUV, a new sedan, and the aforementioned RX8 7-seater SUV. Also, the MG ZS EV, which is basically the electric version of the popular ZS subcompact SUV, will be previewed next year.

Originally scheduled to debut this year, the MG RX8 is a midsize body-on-frame SUV that aims to compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Ford Everest, just to name a few. The RX8 features a modern exterior that’s characterized by its large grille flanked by LED headlights. The rest of the bodywork features elegant lines to match its authoritative presence. At the back are a pair of sleek LED taillights that give this SUV a modern look.

In the Chinese market, the MG RX8 is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 221 hp and 360 Nm of torque, with power being sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

On the other hand, the MG ZS EV shares mostly the same design cues as the standard ZS. The only main differences are the wheels and the obligatory badging to showcase that it is an electric version of the popular ZS. It’s also basically the same story in the interior except for the part that it now uses an electronic rotary controller rather than a mechanical gear lever.

The MG ZS EV features an electric motor that produces 140 hp and 350 Nm of torque. With a 44.5 kWh battery pack, the MG ZS EV has a maximum range of 262 kilometers when the battery is fully charged.

Just like Chevrolet Philippines, which is handled by the same corporate umbrella as MG Philippines, the Sino-British automaker will also certainly be busy in 2021 as it prepares to stimulate the market with a plethora of new vehicle launches.
