Toyota has just unveiled the GR Supra Sport Top–a one-off targa top version of the GR Supra. The 2021 Toyota GR Supra Sport Top is inspired by the GR Supra Heritage Edition that debuted last year at the 2019 SEMA Show and pays homage to the removable-top Supra models of the past.
Since the GR Supra Sport Top is inspired by the GR Supra Heritage Edition, this special one-off model features a number of similar exterior modifications. The main highlight, of course, is the removable roof. It’s made out of two panels that can easily be detached and stored in the car’s trunk. However, removing an integral part of the car’s structure will definitely affect its rigidity. As a result, Toyota’s engineers ensured structural rigidity by reinforcing large sections of the vehicle’s frame.
Toyota also used this opportunity to revisit the 2020 Toyota GR Supra Heritage Edition. This one-off creation painted in Re-entry Red has been a huge hit for fans with its retro-inspired custom headlights, taillights, and MKIV-style rear wing. Some of its performance upgrades include bigger brakes, tuned engine, turbocharger and ECU, and custom front and rear suspension. With these modifications, the GR Supra Heritage Edition’s engine produces more than 500 horsepower according to Toyota.
Apart from the GR Supra Sport Top, Toyota also unveiled the TRD-Sport Trailer, which is Toyota’s answer to the growing popularity of overlanding. Basically, this is a Tacoma pickup bed that can be towed, preferably by a Toyota pickup or SUV of course. It features a remote-operated scissor-lift that raises an innovative platform several feet out of the bed. There’s a Yakima four-person tent with an awning and fly fishing-pole holders, a custom-built toilet and trash can, a refrigerator, a hot water heater, fresh and gray water holding tanks, a slide-out sink and stove, efficient campsite lighting, just to name a few.
