2022 MIAS: GAC Empow Sports Sedan Previewed, PH Launch By 2023

GAC Motor Philippines has showcased not just one, but two new cars at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show. The first vehicle is the newly-refreshed GS8 midsize premium SUV, but if you want something that’s more exhilarating, take a look at the GAC Empow.

This sports sedan will set the tone for every upcoming performance-oriented car from GAC, and it rides on its newest Global Platform Modular Architecture (GPMA). The Empow is indeed unlike any other GAC before it. Rather than going for an elegant look, the Empow looks properly sporty, with its black Mecha grille with vertical air intakes, sharp LED headlights, and sporty front bumper.

At its side, the GAC GAC Empow has a very sporty silhouette, thanks to its fastback-style roofline that’s complemented by sporty 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear end is equally dynamic, with its sleek LED taillights, black rear spoiler, quad exhaust tips, and faux rear diffuser.

Unfortunately, the doors of the GAC Empow were locked, and since it’s also heavily tinted, visitors won’t be able to see what it’s like inside. Fortunately, this is what we’re here for, and as you can see, there’s a twin-screen layout, a black and red interior colorway (which varies depending on the variant), and a sporty steering wheel. There’s also a twin-screen layout with Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife, automatic climate control, and a new feature called ADiGO 3.0, which is basically an in-car camera that monitors the driver and thus prevents distracted driving. In addition, this feature can also lower the audio if someone is talking on the phone, among other scenarios.

Under the GAC Empow’s sporty hood is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 177 hp and 270 Nm of torque, sending power to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. GAC claims a 0-100 kph time of 6.95 seconds with this powertrain.

The GAC Empow will be sold in 2023, with pricing and specifications to be announced at a later date. For the meantime, if you want to see this sports sedan in person, better visit the GAC Motor booth at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show, which runs from today until April 10, 2022.
