Lotus Philippines, which operates under Autohub Group, continues its strengthened presence and expansion in the country with the launch of the 2024 Lotus Eletre R, which was unveiled at the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS). Yes, you read that right, the range-topping Eletre R was brought into Manila, and you can visit from October 19 to 21 at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
The Lotus Eletre is aiming to compete with the Porsche Cayenne, yet its dimensions are marginally longer than its key German competitor at 5,105 mm longer. It is, however, slightly lower, which gives this electric vehicle (EV) a sporty stance. The design also presents a host of firsts for Lotus. Its 3,019 mm long wheelbase and short hood enable it to have a set of proportions never before seen in the brand. The various aerodynamic vents around the vehicle are heavily inspired by the Evija electric hypercar.
That distinctly styled body is riding on a completely new Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), specifically the SEA-S platform. The SEA family of EV platforms was developed by Geely, with the flagship SEA-S being reserved for this Eletre and the Emeya electric sports sedan. Unsurprisingly, this is also the heaviest Lotus to date–and this is coming from a brand whose philosophy has always centered around lightness. Oh, and speaking of those origins, this means that the Eletre is assembled in China.
Nevertheless, one major leap that the Eletre introduces to the Lotus brand is a premium interior. Because Lotus is so focused on pursuing lightness and simplicity, its sportscars’ interiors were simple. This new Eletre, however, takes that up a notch as this is the brand’s finest interior to date. There are also three displays, two on each side of the dash and one 15.1-inch main screen for the infotainment system that’s graphically powered by the Unreal Engine.
In the Philippines, the Eletra comes with five seats, but overseas models can be fitted with an optional third row or a more luxurious two-seat configuration for the second row. Other interior features in this Eletre R include a 23-speaker KEF surround sound system and a panoramic sunroof. If you’re seeing that LiDAR sensor on top of the roof, that’s a sign that this is fully loaded with a host of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). The ADAS suite includes stuff like full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane centering, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams, just to name a few.
The range-topping Eletre R, whose tri-electric motor setup produces a whopping 905 horsepower and 985 Nm of torque. This means it’s all-wheel drive and is enough for a 0-100 kph time of just 2.95 seconds. The Eletre R also has a 112 kWh battery with an 800-volt architecture that allows for up to 350 kW DC charging. This charging speed is good for a 10-80 percent charge in just 20 minutes, while its AC charging is up to 22 kW. When fully charged, it has a range of 490 kilometers, but the upcoming more efficient Eletre and Eletre S can do more than 600 kilometers.
The 2024 Lotus Eletre R can now be yours at an introductory price of P9,999,000, but its true suggested retail price is P10,499,000. The less powerful but more efficient and more affordable Eletre R will also be arriving in the Philippines in the near future.
