Toyota Motor PH Sold A Record-Breaking 198,188 Cars In 2023

There’s no doubt that Toyota Motor Philippines is the most popular automotive brand in the Philippines, but just how popular is the brand? Well, in 2023, the company managed to sell 198,1888 vehicles, which is the best-ever figure in the company’s 35-year history and represents a 14.4 percent growth from 2022. Out of the 430,000 cars sold in 2023, this means Toyota commands a 46 percent market share, which means nearly one of of two vehicles sold in 2023 is a Toyota.

But just how popular did each model perform? Thankfully, the folks at Toyota Motor Philippines are kind enough to give us a breakdown of how much each model performed.

Unsurprisingly, the Toyota Vios continues to be the Philippines’ most popular model. At a comfortable second place in Toyota’s lineup is the Hilux, which also means it’s the country’s best-selling pickup. Ford Philippines would be happy to tell you though that among pickups with a 4×4 system, the Ford Ranger is the most popular. In third is the Toyota Raize, and then completing the top 5 are the Innova with 16,728 units sold and the Wigo with 14,676 units sold.

Surprisingly, 68 units of the FJ Cruiser were sold in 2023, especially since the FJ Cruiser was officially ended production in December 2022.  And as one of the few midsize executive sedans left in the segment, the Toyota Camry managed to sell 690 units—effectively making it the best-selling midsize executive sedan. It also must be noted that the Camry, along with the RAV4 and new Alphard, is now offered purely as hybrids.

Also surprisingly, while the Avanza and Veloz have become separate nameplates for this new generation, the two cars remain mechanically and fundamentally similar. Yet, the two nameplates managed to sell similarly at more than 13,000 units, which, when combined, would’ve made it the best-selling MPV in the Philippines at more than 27,000 units sold.

So yes, a lot of things remain familiar, but also, the market’s shifting preferences have also meant that with such a broad lineup of cars, Toyota is able to offer what’s right and apt for the Filipino buyer. No wonder then, it can remain on top or even exceed its historical numbers.
