2024 Dodge Charger Goes Electric With Up To 670 HP, Gas Version Coming 2025

The 2024 Dodge Charger enters the electric era, but don't fret, because a gas-powered straight-six is coming in 2025.

The 2024 Dodge Charger has just been unveiled, and it’s now called the Charger Daytona as a way to separate itself from the gas-powered model. The new Charger will set the tone for the future of the muscle car as even this segment won’t be immune to electrification. With that said, the new generation Charger will still be sold with an internal combustion engine (ICE), but the electric Charger Daytona will first arrive in American dealerships later this year.

The First Electric Muscle Car

The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona rides on the STLA Large platform developed by parent company Stellantis. This will also be the first in its lineage to come with all-wheel drive (AWD) traction as standard. As expected, in the Charger Daytona, this comes in the form of two electric motors called an electric drive module (EDM). It is called as such because it combines three otherwise separate mechanical parts–the inverter, gearbox, and motor.

Two versions of the Charger Daytona will initially be sold. The first is the R/T, which comes with 496 horses and 548 Nm courtesy of a Direct Connection Stage 1 upgrade kit that added 40 horses. Up the ladder is the Scat Pack, which produces 670 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque thanks to the Direct Connection Stage 2 upgrade kit that added 80 horses to its output.

Do note that these figures are with the 40-horsepower PowerShot mode activated, which lasts for 15 seconds. With these peak numbers, the Charger Daytona R/T sprints from 0-60 mph (96 kph) in just 4.7 seconds, while the Scat Pack does the same run in just 3.3 seconds. Furthermore, the aforementioned Direct Connection Stage kits can eventually be cherry-picked if you simply want to upgrade the power output of your base Charger.

Providing juice to the electric motors is a 100.5 kWh (93.9 kWh usable) lithium-ion battery pack that can be charged at up to 350 kW in DC, resulting in a 5 to 80 percent charge in just 32.5 minutes, while the same duty using an 11-kW AC charger results in a charge time of 411 minutes. When fully charged, the R/T has an EPA-estimated range of 510 kilometers, while the Scat Pack expectedly has a shorter range of 418 kilometers.

Even in the EV era, an electric muscle car will still need to make its presence felt, which is why Dodge’s engineers have developed a Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system. Basically, through fancy pants speakers, the Charger Daytona will emit a robotic engine note that has the aural character of the Hemi V8. So far, the company hasn’t released any sound bites so we couldn’t confirm how well this would sound.

But An Inline-Six Will Be Offered Eventually

If you do want the sound of an engine, the 2024 Dodge Charger will come with a new pair of Hurricane 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six engines. Whereas the electric Charger comes with the Daytona nomenclature, the Hurricane-powered models will get the Sixpack name. The Sixpack S.O. gets a 420-horsepower tune, while the Sixpack H.O. gets 550 horses. Other details such as acceleration times and what transmission it will get haven’t been released yet, but these will come later in 2025.

Other things to note about the 2024 Dodge Charger are its fully independent four-link rear suspension and front multi-link suspension. Together with optional Dual-valve Semi-active Suspension, the available drive modes such as Donut Mode and Drift Mode, are set to make the new Charger a lot more multi-talented than ever.

Familiar Looks For The EV Era

Finally, as for its design, the 2024 Dodge Charger maintains the familiar look of the muscle car, with many of the design details of the Daytona SRT Concept making their way into production. This includes the full-width LED light bar up front, the patent-pending R-Wing at the front of the hood, as well as the distinct full-width LED taillights. There also won’t be a Challenger nameplate this time around because the Charger will be sold as both a coupe and a four-door sedan, both of which share a similar wheelbase.

2024 Dodge Charger Daytona

Tech plays an even bigger in the 2024 Dodge Charger. A 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster is standard, while this can be optioned with a larger 16-inch screen. Regardless of which variant you choose, a 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes as standard. Optional interior features include a head-up display, a 64-color Attitude Adjustment interior ambient light system that reacts to every switch, setting, or button you press, and Nappa Leather in black or red, just to name a few.

The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona will arrive sooner in American dealerships as production is slated to begin in mid-2024. The Sixpack gas-powered models as well as the four-door sedan in both Sixpack and Daytona versions will begin production in the first quarter of 2025.
