Lexus is entering the small luxury crossover SUV segment with the new LBX. Initially revealed last year, the LBX has been developed mostly for European and Japanese premium consumers. Here in the Philippines, the new 2024 Lexus LBX is one of the most affordable entry points into owning your first luxury car, and with prices starting at P2,968,000, it serves as a great way to own your first Lexus.

But entry-level doesn’t necessarily mean getting the shorter end of the Lexus stick. That’s because the LBX has been thoughtfully styled with a true sense of craft as opposed to building it to a cost. For instance, the Lexus design language that’s implemented in the LBX gives this petite luxury crossover SUV a unique character in the lineup. The “deconstructed” Spindle Grille has been split into two different sections, with the larger, lower portion being the main section of the grille. The grille is then flanked by full LED headlights. In addition, the side profile is imbued with curves and creases that emphasize the LBX’s youthful character. This is then complemented by a full-width LED taillight design with the “LEXUS” script written on the tailgate.

Inside, the 2024 Lexus LBX once again showcases how the brand can create a crafted interior, even in a petite package. There’s a generous use of premium materials with various textures and shades. Hard plastics are well hidden out of sight and touch, which is always a challenge when it comes to developing entry-level luxury cars. Tech also plays a major role in the new LBX, with the sole variant to be sold in the Philippines coming with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster (slight bummer that it’s not the larger 12.3-inch version) along with a 9.8-inch Lexus Interface infotainment system. You also get the electronic shifter along with the electronic door handles.
As an urban luxury crossover SUV, the LBX has been designed with a low hip-point that adds to the driver’s sense of being at one with the car. But, once again, being a luxury crossover, it won’t be prone to scrapes when going over steep driveways. To ensure a good view out for everyone on board, the rear seats are set slightly higher than those at the front, while those seated at the front benefit from a ten-way power adjustment.
The 2024 Lexus LBX is offered with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder hybrid drivetrain that produces 134 horsepower and 185 Nm of torque. In the Philippines, only the front-wheel drive (FWD) version is offered. The LBX is underpinned by the TNGA-B platform that the Japanese and European Yaris Cross uses. Yet, despite the humble underpinnings, the GA-B platform has been extensively re-engineered in the LBX to have copious amounts of sound insulation. Some components of the platform even use aluminum for weight-saving and rigidity measures.
Lastly, the new LBX comes with the full suite of Lexus Safety System+ advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), which includes Pre-Collision Braking, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Tracing Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and low-speed safety features that includes Parking Support Brake and a reverse camera.
