The Audi A4 won’t be what it used to be as the A5 now fulfills that role. In a shift in Audi’s naming scheme, odd-numbered models will be reserved for those with an internal combustion engine (ICE), while the even numbers will be reserved for its e-tron fully electric models. Now, with the new 2025 Audi A5, the shift in name also introduces a more sophisticated design that shares no similarities with the ICE-powered A4 it’s replacing.
Dramatic New Style

Starting with the sedan body style, this vehicle has a curvaceous design that features a sloped roofline. The rounded rear end, however, reminds us of a BMW 2 Series GranCoupe, which isn’t necessarily a good thing since that’s BMW’s entry-level model. On the upside, the lighting elements are very sleek in typical Audi fashion. The standard adaptive matrix LED headlights and optional OLED taillights have customizable daytime running light patterns, while those same taillights can display warnings to vehicles from behind that are approaching too fast, or when the A5 makes an emergency stop.
Nevertheless, the A5 wagon or Avant in Audi’s marketing speak also dons a similarly sleek styling, but unsurprisingly, it is the wagon that captures our taste. The roofline is more steeply raked in the A5 than it was in the A4, which helps in its sleek styling, but probably not in its rear cargo capacity. Topping things off are large air intakes at the front, while the rear bumper finally contains real quad exhausts.

Moving inside the 2025 Audi A5, the changes are just as radical as the exterior. The dash design is sleek and very premium, but the war against physical controls continues in the A5 as everything has been migrated into the new generation Audi MMI infotainment that first appeared in the Q6 e-tron. The infotainment system consists of a trio of OLED screens measuring 11.9 inches for the gauge cluster, 14.5 inches for the main touchscreen, and an optional 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger. Space has also been increased in all dimensions except for cargo space, which is actually smaller this time around.
New PPC Platform
The new 2025 Audi A5 is the first model to ride on Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). While not a derivative of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) that the Q6 e-tron and Macan EV use, PPC builds upon the previous MLB Evo platform. PPC supports the use of electrified ICE powertrains, with the trio of engines at launch containing 48-volt mild hybrid assistance.
The base engine of the range is a 2.0-liter TFSI turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 148 horsepower with front-wheel drive (FWD). An uprated version of this engine produces 201 horsepower and now comes with quattro all-wheel drive (AWD). The third engine is a 2.0-liter TDI turbo diesel four-cylinder that produces 201 horses and 400 Nm of torque, and it comes as either FWD or quattro AWD. All engines are mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, while a range of plug-in hybrid powertrains is expected to debut soon.
There’s An S5, Too

Finally, the 2025 Audi S5 also makes its debut today. As the performance-oriented version of the A5, the S5 competes with the BMW M340i and Mercedes-AMG C43, which are likewise not their most potent versions yet. The S5 comes with slightly more aggressive styling that’s characterized by satin or gloss black silver exterior trimmings, sportier wheels, and of course, improved drivability.

This comes courtesy of a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 TFSI engine that likewise gets 48-volt mild hybrid assistance. This engine produces 362 horsepower, which is a 13 horsepower increase. An S Tronic dual-clutch transmission is standard, alon with quattro AWD that’s fitted with a quattro sport differential with torque vectoring capabilities. The suspension has also been reworked together with the steering for the S5 to deliver more precise and more neutral handling. Finally, the suspension can be optionally fitted with adaptive dampers for better ride and body control.
When Is It Coming To The Philippines?
Given the launch timing of the new 2025 Audi A5, it is likely that this will arrive in the Philippines by mid-2025. For now, information about the Philippine-spec A5 is extremely limited, but if it does arrive, it will be definitely through its local distributor PGA Cars.
