It seems like every quarter that BYD Cars Philippines is keeping the motoring media busy, but of course, that’s going to be good to you, the consumer. More choices and more competition drive down prices and spur innovation. In this case, the BYD eMax 9 DM-i is set to redefine the luxury MPV segment very soon.
How soon? Well, we still don’t know when they plan to launch the vehicle, but we’re sure that they’ll try their best to capitalize on the holiday rush and entice prospective luxury MPV buyers into considering the eMax 9 DM-i.

Based on our recent visit to China, the BYD eMax 9 DM-i is packed with premium luxury features, yet it will surely undercut the prices that Toyota is commanding for the Alphard Hybrid. Expect features like an all-digital interior that’s crafted with premium materials, along with rear second-row captain’s chairs with power adjustment, as well as heating and cooling.

Though the final specs obviously haven’t been revealed yet, what we do know is that, based on the publicly-accessible Department of Energy’s (DOE) list of approved electric and hybrid vehicles for homologation purposes, two variants of the BYD eMAx 9 DM-i will be sold. The eMax 9 Advanced (presumably the base version) has a 20.39 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) Blade battery, while the range-topping Premium gets a larger 36.62 kWh LFP battery, which will provide a longer pure electric range.
Whatever variant you choose, though, the eMax 9 uses the same DM-i system as the Tang DM-i, which means it consists of a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor that produces a total system output of 272 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque. All of that power is sent to the front wheels via a planetary gear-type e-CVT.
For now, the GAC M8 plug-in hybrid has the plug-in hybrid luxury MPV segment cornered, but the BYD eMax 9 DM-i is sure to both undercut its rival from GAC Motor, not to mention the Toyota Alphard Hybrid. Reservations for the eMax 9 DM-i are now open at BYD’s official website, so if you’re committed to getting one, be sure to visit this link.
