Geely Motor Philippines Corp. has officially entered the plug-in hybrid crossover SUV segment with the new 2026 Geely EX5 EM-i. The EX5 EM-i, is set to rival the Sealion 5 DM-i and Sealion 6 DM-i due to its broad price range that easily covers two models from BYD. More on the pricing part later.
The 2026 Geely EX5 EM-i is the first plug-in hybrid model that the brand offers in the Philippines to be natively built on their GEA (Global Intelligent Electric Architecture). Thanks to efficient spatial layout design, the GEA platform creates a spacious experience comparable to midsize crossovers despite being a compact offering.
Additionally the 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder that is mared to an electric motor has a 46.5% thermal efficiency, one of the highest in the industry. This means that less fuel is wasted as heat and is instead there to actually power the vehicle. The EM-i plug-in hybrid system delivers a total system output of 217 horsepower and 262 Nm of torque to the front wheels.
The EM-i plug-in hybrid system also has a transmission that Geely calls an E-DHT. E-DHT, or electronic dedicated hybrid transmission, is an 11-in-1 hybrid drive unit that represents a 13.5 percent weight reduction over previous generations while achieving remarkable efficiency: 98.02% maximum motor efficiency and 92.5% overall electric drive efficiency. With 83 km of pure electric range (WLTP cycle), the 2026 Geely EX5 EM-i enables emission-free daily commuting, while its 943 km total range ensures confidence on longer journeys.
The Geely EX5 EM-i is also unique in a sense that it’s one of the few compact crossovers with DC charging capability—up to 30 kW in this case, which is good for a 30 to 80 percent charge in just 20 minutes. AC charging, on the other hand, peaks at 6.6 kW, which is good for a three-hour 25 to 100 percent charge.
Now, two versions of the 2026 Geely EX5 EM-i will be offered for the Philippines: Pro and Max. Design-wise, the EX5 EM-i shares a common aesthetic with its fully electric sibling, though there are a few tweaks. At the front, there’s a full-width LED light bar, with the main LED headlights being in a separate unit. There are also boomerang-shaped elements and also the need for a lower grille to cool the engine. At the sides, it ditches the flushed door handles of the fully electric EX5 in favor of conventional ones. Finally, the rear shares a lot in common with the EX5 with its full-width LED taillights.
In terms of features, only a few separate the two variants. Every exterior highlight mentioned so far is fitted as standard, while the Max gets power-folding mirrors and a powered tailgate.
Moving inside, the Geely EX5 EM-i shares a similar premium and minimalistic aesthetic as the fully electric version, albeit with a few tweaks. There’s a full-width air vent across the dash, plus there are the two large screens—a 15.4-inch main infotainment and a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster. All of this is running the Flyme operating system, and it comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Upping the premium feel, especially for its P1,288,000 base price, is its leatherette topper on the dash and woodgrain panels.
Interior features is where the Pro and Max feel differently. The base Pro gets a six-speaker sound system, but the Max gets plenty of premium features, such as power-adjustment, heating, and ventilation for the front seats, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, a rear center armrest, 256-color ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a rear center armrest, and a 16-speaker Flyme audio system.
Even in terms of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS), both the Pro and Max are loaded, since both variants come with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and automatic high beams. ADAS features reserved for the Max variant include blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, rear automatic braking, and a 360-degree camera system.
Now, as for pricing, the base EX5 EM-i Pro is set at P1,288,000 and P1,468,000 for the EX5 EM-i Max. On top of these competitive prices, the EX5 EM-i comes with a plethora of discounts and promos to further drive down the price, and thus make the purchase experience even more rewarding.
