LOOK: Mitsubishi Confirms Pajero Will Return In Late 2026

Ladies and gentlemen, the Mitsubishi Pajero is confirmed to make a comeback in late 2026 as the brand's flagship model.

After numerous spy shots and even showcasing an unnamed SUV in its brand video, the Mitsubishi Pajero has been officially confirmed to return in the autumn of 2026. The final fourth-generation Pajero was last produced in 2021, while the vehicle dates back to 2006.

Mitsubishi has also confirmed a few technical details about the Pajero. The new Pajero will be underpinned by the Triton’s body-on-frame platform, which is in contrast to the third and fourth-generation Pajeros. That’s because these two generations were underpinned by a monocoque unibody platform with an integrated body-on-frame. With this in mind, it’ll be interesting to see whether the Pajero is also a replacement for the Montero Sport.

Mitsubishi has also confirmed that the all-new Pajero “is being developed as a new flagship model that embodies Mitsubishi Motors’ spirit of adventure”. To achieve this, the Pajero will feature “model-specific development of the cabin and front and rear suspension.”

These are the only technical details confirmed so far, so everything from this point forward will only be our own predictions. The Mitsubishi Pajero will likely get the Triton’s 2.4-liter MIVEC turbo diesel engine. Considering the Pajero’s flagship positioning, it is likely to get the 204-horsepower and 470 Nm version, which has twin turbos.

First launched in 1982, the Pajero was originally developed by Mitsubishi as a recreational vehicle (RV, now widely known as an SUV) with a new concept that combined the off-road performance of a full-fledged four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle with the comfort of a passenger car. Across four generations, the model has become one of Mitsubishi Motors’ most iconic models, with cumulative global sales of more than 3.25 million units in over 170 countries and regions worldwide.
