Remember The Chery QQ? Its Successor Will Arrive In PH As An Electric Hatch

They Chery Q is the QQ's successor. The past 20 years have been kind to this vehicle, as it now significantly glows up to be a striking EV.

Remember the Chery QQ? For a lot of Filipinos, it was the quirky hatchback that was almost a carbon copy of the South Korean Daewoo Matiz. But that was then, and now in 2026, the Chery QQ’s successor is set to return to the Philippine market as the Chery Q, based on the latest teaser of Chery Auto Philippines for the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show this June 4.

The Chery Q is called the QQ3 in China and in certain overseas markets, but in the Philippines, it will simply be called the Q. This electric hatch has grown in size compared to the previous QQ, now competing squarely in the subcompact segment. It measures 4,195 mm long, 1,811 mm wide, and 1,573 mm tall, but thanks to the bespoke electric vehicle (EV) architecture, it has an extraordinarily long 2,700 mm wheelbase. The bespoke EV platform that Chery uses for the Q is the T12 platform. Since it’s designed solely for EVs, the Chery Q has a large 70-liter front trunk, a 375-liter rear cargo area, and plenty of passenger space.

Based on the latest Department of Energy (DOE) filings, the Chery Q will be sold in two versions in the Philippines. They are called Share and Passion, and interestingly, even the spec sheet has already been uploaded. From the outside, the Chery Q gets a cute yet sophisticated design. The body cladding gives the Q a somewhat rugged vibe, though don’t go thinking that this is a tall crossover–it is not.

Rounded, rectangular LED headlights and taillights are fitted as standard, while a choice of 16 or 17-inch geometric alloy wheels (optional equipment on the Passion) give this electric hatch a unique stance. Heated mirrors are optional on the Share, while it becomes standard on the Passion, though for this variant, the power-folding function is an optional extra.

As for the interior, the Chery Q follows a similar template that’s seen with other Chinese EVs, namely an expansive and modern dash design that’s filled with plenty of interesting detailing, along with a large central touchscreen. Leatherette upholstery comes as standard, while a slick and cutting-edge software experience is what dominates the Q’s interior. That’s thanks to the use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip with 105K DMIPS of computing power. Chery also gave the Q vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, which means you can use this electric hatch to power appliances or even your home during a power outage.

What the DOE filings also confirm is that both Q variants will get a range of 420 kilometers through a 41.28 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. The battery can be charged via AC at up to 6.6 kW, while DC fast charging speeds have not yet been revealed, except for the part that it can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in 16.5 minutes.

Now, this is where things continue to get interesting. The Chery Q is actually a rear-wheel drive (RWD) electric hatch, which should give this vehicle excellent driving dynamics. The single electric motor produces 129 horsepower and 115 Nm of torque. Also, the Q gets fully-independent suspension–MacPherson struts up front and multi-link at the rear. All of its Japanese gas and hybrid competitors still use a torsion beam rear suspension.

What’s left to determine are the other features that have not yet been fully revealed in the spec sheet (if there are still any) and the price. As with all of these Chinese competitors, we expect the Chery Q to be extremely competitive, as it battles the upcoming Geely EX2, the newly-launched GAC Aion UT, and other soon-to-arrive electric hatches from China.
