I’m sure that, as a car enthusiast, you are a fan of British Racing Green–a color that somehow became a common fixture in British motorsports. The color was so popular that it was the shade of choice for numerous British brands. And yet, its popularity somehow reached Japan when Mazda debuted the first-generation (codenamed NA) MX-5 Miata. Today, Mazda is making green great again with the debut of Zinc Green Metallic, and as you’d expect, the first model to wear this new shade is an MX-5.
Throughout history, Mazda has offered eight shades of green. For Zinc Green Metallic, Mazda says it’s inspired by the “color and texture of zinc chromate primer, an undercoat used to enhance the durability of industrial products.” The paint has a solid-like texture, which then radiates a delicate metallic sheen when the paint is exposed to bright light. It is a color-shifting paint, which has been achieved through the use of bluish metallic flakes that have optimized particle size and alignment that Mazda says reflects a “cool and refined tone”.
The new green shade was revealed at the recent Karuizawa Meeting 2026, one of the most iconic annual gatherings of Mazda MX-5 Miata owners in Japan. It is a globally-renowned event among enthusiasts, wherein they flock to Karuizawa Prince Ski Resort in Nagano, Japan during late spring. The prestigious event also features auctions, car displays, talk shows, and exclusive automotive reveals, which, in this case, was all about the new Zinc Green Metallic paint.
For now, the Zinc Green Metallic paint is exclusive to the Japanese-market MX-5, alongside which, a silver fabric top has also been revealed. We expect the new green paint to be sold in the Philippines in the future, considering that we have always been the largest MX-5 Miata market in Asia outside Japan.
