In the busy-ness of this year’s Philippine International Motor Show, Suzuki is breaking new ground in an important day for the brand as it is revealing the e Vitara, its first electrified vehicle offering in the Philippine market to date.
The e Vitara takes center stage at the Suzuki podium, showing in full form its renewed and unique design, which separates it from the ICE-powered Vitara. In fact, the e Vitara is based on Suzuki’s separate EV-dedicated platform, which boasts a longer wheelbase and slightly taller and wider stature.
Its rounded-out front end sports a thin, slit-style grille that links up with triangular, DRL-equipped LED headlights, while the rest of its exterior body shape follows throughout in the same flowing, aerodynamic style signature of current-generation EV offerings. Complementing the EV-focused styling are the equally EV-esque 18-inch electric-fan style alloy wheels wrapped in 225 series tires.
The local release e Vitara comes with the long-range 61 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery paired to a front-drive electric motor that puts out a more than respectable 172 horsepower and 190 Nm of torque, with the combination being capable of a range of up to 426 kilometers on a full charge.
Inside the e Vitara is an all-new styling affair comprised of synthetic leather upholstery with brown and silver contrasts for its 5-seater cabin. The driver gets access to a 2-spoke steering wheel and a rotary-style drive selection knob in a familiar fashion to other current EV offerings. Both the gauge cluster and infotainment system are placed on the same front-facing board, measuring 10.1 and 10.25 inches, respectively.
The newly released e Vitara in its sole trim level has a base price of P2,020,000, which puts it within a similar price range as the Tesla Model 3, and is at a slightly lower price point than its sister car, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV.
