2027 Jaecoo J8 Seven-Seater Plug-In Hybrid Previewed In PH

Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines have previewed two new models that are set to be launched within the year. These are the Jaecoo J8 plug-in hybrid seven seater and the J5 in pure electric form. You may see them in person at the ongoing 10th Philippine International Motor Show, which runs until June 7.

This isn’t the first time we’re seeing the Jaecoo J8 plug-in hybrid, as this vehicle has already been previewed multiple times by the brand. Anyway, with the J8 plug-in hybrid, this vehicle comes with a bold exterior design. The front end has a large front grille with vertical slats, which is then flanked by a slim pair of LED headlights.

Being a midsize crossover SUV, the side profile is long and elegant, featuring a character line that accentuates ts length. There’s also a silver trim that emulates a side fender vent, while the black contrasting roof and large 20-inch turbine-style alloy wheels add a sophisticated touch. Lastly, the rear end features elegant sculpting, along with full-width LED taillights, which are currently in vogue among new cars these days.

Inside, the Jaecoo J8 exudes a premium vibe with an interior that’s finished in plush materials. A mixture of leather, leatherette, and simulated wood helps in accentuating its stately feel, though there’s a large expanse of gloss black panels on the center console and doors. There’s also a suede headliner and a generous serving of LED ambient lighting to set the tone inside.

Philippine specs have not yet been confirmed, but the J8’s interior features a pair of 12.3-inch screens with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 14-speaker Sony sound system. There’s also a wireless charger, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, and the choice of either a second-row bench or a pair of captain’s chairs. The seat layout, however, is already confirmed through homologation papers for the Department of Energy.

Those homologation papers also reveal the two powertrain choices of the Jaecoo J8 plug-in hybrid. Both versions utilize a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder with electric motors that send power to either the front or all four wheels via a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). The front-wheel drive (FWD) version has a total system output of 306 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, and its 19.43 kWh lithium-ion battery is good for a pure electric range of 90 kilometers.

For those wanting more power, the all-wheel drive (AWD) version has a strong 428-horsepower total system output, along with 580 Nm of torque. Through a 34.46 kWh lithium-ion battery, it has an impressive pure electric range of 169 kilometers, though its total driving range of 1,300 kilometers is 50 kilometers shy of the FWD version. Also, the FWD version uses Cooper tires, while the AWD models are fitted with Michelin tires.
