If you’ll remember our teaser for the Mitsubishi booth at the 10th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), you probably saw our hunch that one of their previews could be the Xforce hybrid. Well, unfortunately, we missed our shot by quite a mile as the brand unveiled the new Mitsubishi Xforce GLX instead.
Yes, based on the GLX variant name, this is a more affordable version of the Xforce. As such, there are several concessions that the Japanese automaker made in order to achieve a lower price tag. Just how low? The Mitsubishi Xforce GLX retails for P1,119,000, but until July 31, you can get this crossover SUV for P1,049,000.
To achieve this pricing, the exterior of the Xforce GLX gets smaller 17-inch wheels and a body-colored roof, but thankfully, that’s about the only altered exterior feature. The interior, meanwhile, sees the removal of the two large screens. Instead, what you now get is an analog gauge cluster with a color 4.2-inch multi-information display, along with a 2DIN 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Dynamic Sound Yamaha premium sound system has also been ditched in favor of a six-speaker sound system.
Other omissions include the leatherette upholstery with HeatGuard coating, the automatic climate control, and the mélange fabric dash topper.
As for the powertrain, the Mitsubishi Xforce GLX still gets a familiar 1.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 105 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque, which drives the front wheels via a CVT.
The new Mitsubishi Xforce GLX is meant to lower the entry price for the Japanese automaker’s subcompact crossover SUV, especially as it now faces extremely stiff Chinese competition, which also happens to be electrified.
