MG Philippines is expanding the HS lineup with the addition of a new plug-in hybrid variant. Initially offered solely in hybrid form, the MG HS plug-in hybrid becomes a direct competitor to the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i and Geely EX5 EM-i, and it also has a price tag of P1,548,888.
Of course, the main highlight here is the plug-in hybrid drivetrain, in which a larger 21.6 kWh battery powers an electric motor, which is then augmented by a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder. The combined output is 272 horsepower, and it offers a pure electric range of 100 kilometers, according to MG. Total driving range, meanwhile, is more than 1,000 kilometers.
Features-wise, the MG HS plug-in hybrid is similar to the hybrid version that’s already on sale. Inside, you’ll see two 12.3-inch screens for the digital gauges and the main infotainment screen, and this is perched on top of a sleek horizontal dash design. There’s also a panoramic glass roof, power adjustment for the driver’s seat, a hands-free powered tailgate, and configurable LED ambient lighting. This plug-in hybrid SUV also has the full MG Pilot suite of advanced safety features, which includes stuff like automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and full-speed adaptive cruise control, among other features.
Outside, the MG HS plug-in hybrid features similar styling to its hybrid sibling. There’s a set of full LED exterior lighting, which is coupled with sleek styling. Up front, there’s a wide mesh grille, while black alloy wheels are fitted as standard. The sides of the HS plug-in hybrid have sleek lines, though for this plug-in hybrid version, there’s an integrated step board. Don’t expect it to be a heavy-duty unit, though, since this is not a body-on-frame SUV.
