MG Philippines didn’t just launch the HS plug-in hybrid, as they also brought in a seven-seater plug-in hybrid that is truly appealing for Filipino families. Say hello to the 2027 MG RX9 plug-in hybrid, which is a competitor to the likes of the BYD Tang DM-i.
Immediately making a bold impression is the RX9’s styling. The front fascia is characterized by a wide grille with LED headlights and daytime running lights that extend all the way down to the bottom of the grille. It immediately creates a bold and distinct first impression. The side profile is a bit more conventional, though the flush door handles add a dose of sleekness. Take note, however, that the future of these door handles is in jeopardy, as China has recently banned automakers from using them. At the rear, the roofline is a bit more upright than on most of MG’s crossover SUVs, mostly to accommodate the third row. There’s a full-width LED taillight design, along with integrated faux exhaust outlets.
Like most of MG’s models, the interior of the RX9 features a familiar layout that’s dominated by a pair of 12.3-inch screens. The rest of the dash has nice sculpting and a mixture of interesting material choices. The center console bridge also has a sleek design, in which the open space underneath also becomes a storage area. Thankfully, the liberal use of matte textures and satin silver trims helps in delivering a premium interior feel.
As for features, the MG RX9 justifies its flagship positioning with premium amenities like a 12-speaker Bose sound system, ventilated front seats with massage, a hands-free powered tailgate, a panoramic glass roof, and configurable LED ambient lighting. There’s also the full suite of MG Pilot advanced safety features, which include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, full-speed adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams, just to name a few.
The 2027 MG RX9 plug-in hybrid gets a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder mated to electric motors, which drives the front wheels via a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). With its 24.7 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, the RX9 offers up to 115 kilometers of pure electric range, and more than 1,100 kilometers of total driving range. Furthermore, its hybrid battery can even be used for vehicle-to-load (V2L) purposes.
