LOOK: This Is The Next-Generation 2027 Hyundai Elantra

The new 2027 Hyundai Elantra has been comprehensively redesigned. It also debuts the new Pleos software-defined vehicle platform.

The current generation Hyundai Elantra has been on sale globally since 2020 for the 2021 model year, but it wasn’t until 2025 that it finally arrived in the Philippines. With the compact sedan already in its sixth year, this vehicle is ripe for a redesign. Say hello to the 2027 Hyundai Elantra (called Avante in South Korea), which serves as the eighth generation of the South Korean automaker’s popular compact sedan.

For its full redesign, the 2027 Hyundai Elantra is sculpted with the brand’s new Art of Steel design language. Riding on an updated K3 platform, the Elantra’s enhanced proportions work well on the monolithic design. Up front, you’ve got an interesting LED daytime running light design, which forms the H-shaped motif that the brand has been building upon lately. The LED headlights are in a separate unit, neatly integrated with the air vents.

At the sides, the new Elantra somehow evolves the silhouette of the outgoing generation. This time around, Hyundai went towards a traditional three-box sedan shape as opposed to sloping the roofline as many automakers do these days. Once again, the side profile features a monolithic design, one that’s emphasized by blistered wheel arches that emphasize its stance.

Moving towards the rear, the front fascia’s H-shaped LED daytime running lights are somehow mirrored at the rear, and that is combined with an integrated ducktail spoiler design and satin silver elements for the rear diffuser. Overall, the bold, monolithic design of Art of Steel works really well in our opinion with the Elantra’s lengthened proportions. It is now 4,765 mm in length (+55 mm), 1,855 mm in width (+30 mm), 1,425 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm (+30 mm).

As we move towards the interior, Hyundai continues to give the Elantra a driver-focused asymmetrical dash. The deeply sculpted dash design features premium materials and available ambient LED lighting. The center console also has an asymmetrical layout to create a cockpit feel that distinctly separates the driver and front passenger. A slim digital gauge cluster sits above the steering wheel, while a large 12.9- or 14.6-inch touchscreen is offered, depending on the variant. These screens, along with the entire electronics architecture, are powered by Hyundai’s upcoming Pleos operating system.

Pleos is the name of Hyundai’s first true software-defined vehicle (SDV) electronics architecture. , which is based on the Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS). As a recap, AAOS is different from the Android Auto smartphone mirroring feature, as this is a Google OS meant to power a vehicle. Despite the large touchscreen, the Elantra still retains a healthy amount of physical controls for the climate and frequently used driving settings.

Pleos comes with Gleo AI and a Pleos App Market. All of these allow the new Elantra to receive new features through over-the-air (OTA) updates, whether it’s for the infotainment or for the vehicle’s driving systems.

The 2027 Hyundai Elantra will initially be sold in two versions. The first one is a pure internal combustion engine (ICE) variant with a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine. This is carried over from the outgoing model, and it produces 149 horsepower. In the Philippines, what we get is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder, but the Korean market will no longer get this engine.

Those who want an electrified Elantra will be happy to know that there will still be an Elantra Hybrid. The Elantra Hybrid gets a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor that produces a system output of 157 horsepower. Though Hyundai did not specify what kind of transmission it will get, it will likely be a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), since the powertrain specifications are similar to the recently-launched Kia Seltos. Hyundai Motor Group prefers using a parallel hybrid system versus the series-parallel systems that the Japanese and Chinese automakers usually offer.

The Elantra Hybrid also uses Hyundai Motor Group’s new-generation hybrid system. Initially debuting in the second-generation Palisade, the new hybrid system allows the Elantra Hybrid to use the high-voltage battery to power the vehicle in accessory mode, as well as to be used for external power usage through its vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability.

The new hybrid system also allows the Elantra Hybrid to adopt the Palisade Hybrid’s predictive Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0, whilst introducing a new feature called Hybrid Hierarchical Predictive Control System. Hybrid Hierarchical Predictive Control System aims to improve efficiency by managing the battery charge and engine usage based on the route and road conditions ahead when using the navigation.

The 2027 Hyundai Elantra will go on sale in South Korea first, with orders set to begin in the third quarter of this year. A global rollout will be followed shortly. Its chance of arriving in the Philippines is very slim, considering that the outgoing generation was only introduced in its fifth year in the global market already.
