Biofuels Will Be Used For This Weekend’s Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup

The Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup resumes this weekend, and it'll be using biofuels to push the limits of sustainable performance.

After putting the Toyota Racing Philippine Cup on hold in March, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) now announces the resumption of its premier racing series, with succeeding races serving as a platform for innovation and responsibility.

Race Weekend 2 will be happening on July 9 to 11 at the Clark International Speedway in Mabalacat, Pampanga. It will be the second out of four race weekends planned for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup in 2026.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup has been bringing the thrill and joy of motorsports closer to Filipinos since it was launched in 2014. In March, the racing event attracted more than 6,000 spectators when it brought the action to Riverpark, Cavite, for Race Weekend 1. It was during that weekend that the series debuted the Tamaraw Racing Class, which makes use of the locally made Tamaraw one-make race car.

For Race Weekend 2, the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup returns with sustainability at the forefront. As a “rolling laboratory,” the racing event will utilize low-carbon biofuels to run its two one-make race vehicles, the Vios OMR and Tamaraw OMR. Through motorsports, the extreme racing conditions will serve as a test platform for the usage benefits of 5% coco-biodiesel blend (B5) and 20% bio-ethanol blend (E20), offering a unique opportunity to push vehicles to their limits.

Demonstrating a strong commitment to fuel flexibility as part of its Beyond Zero multi-pathway approach, three-quarters of Toyota and Lexus gas models are already E20 compatible, while all of Toyota’s diesel models are B5 compatible.

“Motorsports has always been a testbed for progress, and this season, TGR Philippines will take a step forward by actively exploring alternative fuels in competitive racing conditions. Testing biofuels in motorsports allows us to evaluate performance, efficiency, and reliability in high-demand environments, so this will be a pivotal moment for the wider adoption of low-carbon biofuels in the Philippines,” shared TMP First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations Elijah Marcial.

“As a company committed to reducing carbon emissions, we recognize that every activity must contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable future. Alternative fuels help reduce dependency on non-renewables like petroleum, so using biofuel for our motorsports events aligns with our multi-pathway approach, which includes diversifying our energy sources to contribute to our broader goal of carbon neutrality,” shared TMP Vice President for Government and Industry Affairs Elvin Luciano.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup Race Weekend 2 will continue to be open to the public on July 11. Admission, as ever, remains free.
