Next-Generation Honda CR-V Reportedly Debuting 2027 With New Hybrid System

It’s no secret that Honda is hard at work in improving and revamping its hybrid lineup, especially since the cancellation of its electric vehicle (EV) project with most of the 0 Series models (the Honda 0 Alpha α is still expected to push through). With that in mind, a report from Nikkei has revealed that the next-generation Honda CR-V is debuting much sooner than anticipated, and it will be the poster child of its next-generation e:HEV hybrid system.

The report suggests that the next-generation Honda CR-V will start production as early as February 2027 in Canada, and then in the United States. North America, after all, is the CR-V’s largest market, and it took a while before it was offered even in Japan.

Details of the next-generation e:HEV hybrid system thankfully aren’t scarce, as Honda already previewed its next-generation e:HEV system back at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show through prototype test drives. The new system will be a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder with direct injection and two electric motors. As promised, the Honda Prelude’s S+ Shift simulated gear shifts will be offered in the next-generation CR-V and other hybrid models inheriting this new powertrain.

Apart from the four-cylinder hybrid system, a new midsize platform is also in development, and this is in conjunction with a V-6 gasoline engine. Vehicles using this platform and drivetrain will be introduced sometime in 2027 onwards. Honda promises a high level of driving fun and refinement thanks to its highly rigid structure, though interestingly, a bit more flex will be introduced in certain areas of the platform for improved ride compliance.

The next-generation hybrid system will also feature the new Motion Management System, which is an evolution of its Agile Handling Assist. This is all in pursuit of reducing the vehicle’s pitching and diving motions, all in the name of comfort and handling.

If the Nikkei report is indeed true, then the next-generation Honda CR-V will likely be revealed much sooner than anticipated. This is all in line with the brand’s goal of reducing development times as it keeps up with an ever-comptetitive automotive market.
