So what’s in it for both fans and racers? For the first time, the 86 nameplate will join the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup calendar, adding a dose of rear-wheel-drive (RWD) sports-car excitement to the series. Considering the popularity of the 86 nameplate in the Philippines, its addition to the racing series is hotly anticipated by fans and owners.

However, to join the GR 86 Cup, you simply can’t bring your current 86 or GR 86 onto the track and call it a day. Instead, you’ll have to purchase one of the two GR 86 OMR racecar versions: Base Spec OMR and Performance Spec OMR.

Base Spec OMR

The Base Spec OMR has a price tag of P2,960,000, which is actually slightly less than the standard 2.4 M/T variant despite its racing setup. The Base Spec OMR gets Brembo Brake Pads with upgraded brake lines and A+ Brake Ducts. For cooling and lubrication, you have a BRD Oil Cooler and a Greddy Baffle Pan.

Inside, you have a Cusco Safety21 Roll Cage and Recaro RSS-L Bucket Seats with a Schroth six-point harness. Lastly, there is also emergency equipment such as a fire extinguisher, a Sabelt Tow Strap, and a Sparco 6 Pole Kill Switch. Since this variant only meets the minimum requirements of the GR 86 Cup, customers can add individual parts from the Performance Spec OMR variant to meet their preferences.

The second version is the Performance Spec OMR, which retails for P3,290,000. Additional upgrades for this version come in the form of a Brembo Pista FF4 Big Brake Kit, while the stock alloy wheels are replaced by 17-inch MID Racing by Rays wheels wrapped in GT Radial SX2 tires. A BRD Catback Exhaust adds a bit of aural drama to the vehicle, while the Riaction Track Spec Adjustable Coilovers and Stabilizer Links should help improve its handling ever so slightly.

Whichever variant you choose, the 2.4-liter FA24 boxer engine still produces 237 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. A six-speed manual is your only transmission choice. These GR 86 Cup cars are completely street legal and will be available at all Toyota GR dealerships nationwide. However, if you’re interested in joining the 2027 season, you’re out of luck, as the full 30-car grid and thus the initial 30-unit allocation have already been filled.
